A few not-so-fun things

Hi all,

Of course, on the way back to Ludwigsburg, I came down with the flu. Just my luck!

Then, 5 days later, while I was still a bit sick, I had oral surgery (which I put off because of grandma's funeral). The official term for what I had, which my German dentist knew in English, but I didn't, is apicoectomy. Fun term! Anyway, all went all right..

Three days later, I still have the stitches in my mouth, and I still can't eat on my left side, but no biggie.. LOL

Going on our farewell tour of Switzerland this week (from Oct 28 - Nov 1). It'll be the last time I see Switzerland and Wolf's family for some time. It's really sad for me!

Anyway, I'll write about the trip when we get back.

In Milwaukee for now

Been in Milwaukee for a few days, an unexpected trip due to my grandma's funeral.

I will say that the funeral was a beautiful celebration of the life of my grandma. She was such a fantastic person, not only to me, but to the many people who she touched throughout her life. Yes, a few tears were shed (sometimes more than a few!) but overall, she made me proud to be her granddaughter.

Other than my grandma's funeral, it's been a pretty low-key time here. I was able to do a few things that I wanted to, eg pick up my wedding dress, buy a couple pair of boots, win $90 (yipee!) on the lottery, and be with my family.

Going back tomorrow--the time was fast, but also necessary.

Goodbye Grandma...

I am sorry to say that I have just found out last night that my maternal grandma has just died.

She was really a fantastic person, and both Wolf and I are so happy we were able to be at her 90th birthday party on August 6th of this year.

Grandma, you will be missed by all.

We love you.

Ticino (Switzerland) and Milano (Italy)

Wolfgang and I took advantage of the long weekend (October 3rd is Reunification Day in Germany) to go and visit friends in Ronco (Ascona), Switzerland. This village is on Lago Maggiore and is about 5 km from the Italian border. Of course, the language there is Italiano. :)

We were hoping the weather would be better, but overall, it didn't rain much. Here's a picture of what we could have seen, but didn't, because of the overcast weather.

We were visiting Hedy and Jörg Van Voornveld, a couple who Wolf has know for many years. They are wonderful people and I feel lucky to know them.

While we were there, we were able to go to a market in a town in Italy just over the border from Switzerland, but for now, the name escapes me.

Also, we took one day out to go down the Milano. What a fantastic city this was! We only had about 6 hours to be there, but we were able to see the most important places: the Duomo (Cathedral), the covered arcade next to it, the Skala Theater, and the Sforzesco Castle. I'll post pictures of these in a few days (they're on Wolf's computer)

Overall, it was great to get back to Italy again, and see another of their major cities. Still have to see Venice and Florence, but they will come some day. :)

Ok, time to get dinner on the table.
